Spring 2026
Across Latin America this season, the dominant curatorial impulse is not simply to recover overlooked artists but to scrutinise the systems through which cultural value is produced. Major institutions are expanding and revising the canon through renewed attention to Indigenous knowledge, collective organisation and alternative historical narratives, while continuing to reaffirm key figures such as Remedios Varo. Museums in São Paulo, Mexico City and Buenos Aires emerge as the principal sites of this reassessment, using surveys, archival exhibitions and historical retrospectives to examine both artistic production and the structures that sustain it. Galleries contribute contemporary perspectives, but it is museums that are shaping the intellectual agenda. Together, these exhibitions suggest a regional art world increasingly preoccupied with the politics of visibility, historical memory and institutional responsibility, reflecting a broader shift from celebrating individual artists towards understanding the cultural frameworks that determine who enters history and why.
